150. Wala ka sa Lolo ko. The Lord blessed him because of his children.
30 April 2021
Genesis 28
13 There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.
15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
Laban, Jacob's uncle same time father-in-law, was blessed because the Lord was with Jacob.
Genesis 30
29 Jacob said to him, “You know how I have worked for you and how your livestock has fared under my care.
30 The little you had before I came has increased greatly, and the Lord has blessed you wherever I have been. But now, when may I do something for my own household?”
Will you consider yourself blessed because the Lord is with somebody who is around you?
I consider myself blessed because of my children whom the Lord has given me and who have been around me.
It's humbling. I was providing well for the family, when suddenly for a period of around 5 years, I had no stable employment, at a time when my children were to start college.
My children saw my struggle, I was shying away from family and friends because of my predicament.
Years before I went through such affliction, my children grew up with us as a family having time to pray together. I cannot remember if our praying together became less frequent when I was starting to sink into depression.
What I can say, I am sure my children noticed the change in my demeanor, and that I am sure my children prayed for my situation, my seeming hopelessness.
The prayers of children are powerful, the prayers of people with childlike faith are powerful.
The Lord is with my children, let me say that with all modesty.
During her senior year in high school, my eldest daughter got some money from the Globe Telecom Academic Awards, she gave it to my wife for our family expenses. In college, she got stipend from DOST Scholarship, she gave it to my wife. She graduated high school top of the batch, and went to attend college at Ateneo on free tuition.
The following year, my second daughter graduated high school top 4 of the batch, and also went to attend college at Ateneo also on free tuition.
Two years after, my son, the youngest graduated high school earning DOST Scholarship and attended college at UP Diliman.
Around that time, I started to recover emotionally and got gainfully employed.
The Lord blessed me because of my children, my children's determination gave me moral boost, the Lord blessed me in my affliction with the faith and prayers of my children.
My 2 daughters learned to be independent living in Manila, staying with relatives while we were in Lipa City. My children grew up riding the school service (one time I even owned the school service), and with lunch brought to school by my wife.
I cannot imagine myself surviving through affliction without the inspiration that my children gave me during that time of severe famine.
Even recently, in 2019 I had minor medical procedure and there was not much left in my entitlement in the health card, and the bill was expected to be around 120 thousand. One daughter deposited to my wife's account, and by God's grace the hospital bill came up to only 20 thousand.
My other daughter arranged and is paying for an endowment insurance for the two of us of my wife, which will provide health insurance for us after some time.
When my son graduated college and needed money for the review classes for the board exams, he was taken in by a mining company, having in-house review while already on payroll, and after passing the board was assigned at the mine site.
The Lord blessed me because of my children, He did not give me over to death about 17 years ago, and even at this time in my senior years, He allowed me to see my children's children, 2 girls and 3 boys with 2 boys from my son having my surname.
I write taking it as a privilege in the Lord Jesus Christ, my writings I will leave behind with my children and my children's children.
"Lord, You watched over Jacob - "He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the LORD, and he said: "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you" (Genesis 28:12, 13, 15). Lord, God of Jacob, I claim Your word - The LORD will keep me from all harm — he will watch over my life" (Psalm 121:7). This I pray in Jesus' name. Amen."
Wala ka sa Lolo ko; the Lord blessed him because of his children, this my children's children will utter someday.
May you be blessed with God's Word. Amen.
Maraming salamat.
