201. Caleb and Joshua: The Lord is pleased with people who serve Him with all faithfulness.

25 September 2021
The Lord is pleased.

Numbers 14
8 If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.

Psalm 40
Of David.

13 Be pleased to save me, Lord;
come quickly, Lord, to help me.

Exploring Canaan

Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”
But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.”
And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.” Numbers 13:30-32

Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes
and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good.
If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.” Numbers 14:6-8

The Lord said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the signs I have performed among them?” Number 14:11

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron:
“Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
As for your children that you said would be taken as plunder, I will bring them in to enjoy the land you have rejected.
I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this whole wicked community, which has banded together against me. They will meet their end in this wilderness; here they will die.” Numbers 14:26, 30-31, 35

The Lord is pleased with people like Caleb and Joshua who serve Him with all faithfulness.

“But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.” Numbers 14:24

So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him.
Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.” Numbers 27:18, 20

Joshua is famous for his dedication to the Lord.

Joshua 24
14 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness.
15 But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

The Lord was also well pleased with David.

Acts 13
22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’

On the occasion of my 61st birthday today, I utter a prayer of David.

""Be pleased to save me, LORD; come quickly, LORD, to help me. I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him. I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart. I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, LORD, as you know. Do not withhold your mercy from me, LORD; may your love and faithfulness always protect me" (Psalm 40:13, 1-3, 8-9, 11). Lord, I praise You, in Jesus' name. Amen.

30 January 2018"

May you be blessed with God's Word.

Maraming salamat.
