Exodus 22
25 “If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest.
26 If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, return it by sunset,
27 because that cloak is the only covering your neighbor has. What else can they sleep in? When they cry out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.
The Lord is compassionate to widows, the fatherless and the foreigner.
Exodus 22
22 “Do not take advantage of the widow or the fatherless. 23 If you do and they cry out to me, I will certainly hear their cry. 24 My anger will be aroused, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives will become widows and your children fatherless.
21 “Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners in Egypt.
But the Israelites would later worship idols and become corrupt. Exodus 32:7-8
Yet the Lord is forgiving.
Rend Your Heart
Joel 2
13 Rend your heart
and not your garments.
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate,

The Lord Jesus is compassionate.

32 Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
33 “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.”
34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
The Lord is compassionate.
For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help. Psalm 72:12
I was bankrupt, I had no stable job hence no money for the college education of my children.
Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours. Psalm 86:8
"The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust (Psalm 103:8, 13, 14). A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling (Psalm 68:5). Lord God, great is Your compassion and great is Your mercy, I praise You in Jesus' name. Amen.
