Genesis 45
7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
Jacob, whose name God changed to Israel, came to Egypt to be reunited with Joseph, his favorite son, who became second in command to Pharaoh.
And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!”
“Here I am,” he replied.
“I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.
I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.” Genesis 46:2-4
All those who went to Egypt with Jacob—those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons’ wives—numbered sixty-six persons. With the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family, which went to Egypt, were seventy in all. Genesis 46:26-27
It was to save lives that Joseph ended up in Egypt, now thirty, after his brothers sold him to slave traders when he was seventeen.
The descendants of Jacob would be called Israelites who would grow to be a nation or a people in Egypt, and the country it is known today.
Hebrew, and then Israelite.
Hebrew as a people was first mentioned in the Bible referring to Abram (Genesis 14:13), his name God later changed to Abraham.
Relevant use of Israelite as a people was first used in the Bible referring to Jacob's descendants.
Genesis 47
27 Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.
28 Jacob lived in Egypt seventeen years, and the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven.
God's people.
The Israelites are God's chosen people. It was God's design that Joseph was sold to Egypt in order to save God's people.
The Israelites, the descendants of Jacob, are referred as the Lord's portion, the apple of God's eye. Deuteronomy 32:9-10
It was to save lives that God sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to become Son of Man.
Mark 10
45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. John 3:16-18
God's people according to Apostle Paul.
From the days of Apostle Paul and to present day, Christians or believers in Jesus Christ are referred to be God's people.
Roman 12 NLT
13 When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.
1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
There is no condemnation in Jesus Christ, I have put my faith in Him as my personal Lord and Savior.
"Lord, one of miracles You worked in my life - providing for college for my children at time I was not earning and sick; "I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago" (Psalm 77:11). You are God Almighty, Lord, power and majesty are Yours, in Jesus' name I pray. Amen."
Someday, my children's children will say, "Wala ka sa Lolo ko. For him, it was to save lives that God sent to us His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, because God so loved the world."
May you be blessed by God's Word.
Maraming salamat.
