Mark 14
34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”

Mark 14
Gethsemane
32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”
33 He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.
34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him.
36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

In the present tense, let's say you are in this situation.

You are a man, aged about 40, with family, with three children who are about to start college. You would naturally want the best education for your children. You have an idea how much is the tuition fee in the top universities. You are the man of the house, you have a tall order in front of you.

Then it so happen, at such time you have been separated from work, you have mortgaged the house, had to sell the cars. You are wanting to sell the house, instead of it being foreclosed by the bank due to unpaid amortization.

You then decided to shy away from family and friends because you do not want to share your perplexing situation. You hit rock bottom, you started to wallow in depression. You are at your wit's end. You are simply....helpless.

You can only think....only a miracle will save you from extinction.

Now, how true could such scenario be in such exact details?

Believe it or not. Very true. That was about 18 years ago, that person is me.

The turning point is that I became a Christian at age 44. I am now 60, turned sweet sixty this 25 September.

Am alive and kicking, all children finished college, my two daughters attended Ateneo and my son attended UP Diliman; they are now all married, blessing me and my wife Marlou with five grandchildren.

Truly, nothing beats God's grace. Amazing grace. How sweet the sound. That saved a wretch like me!

“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” Mark 14:34

I cast my cares on the Lord and he sustained me. Should I say, I prayed at Gethsemane.

Cast your cares on the Lord
    and he will sustain you. (Psalm 55:22).

Psalm 55
A maskil of David.
1 Listen to my prayer, O God,
    do not ignore my plea.
5 Fear and trembling have beset me;
    horror has overwhelmed me.
6 I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
    I would fly away and be at rest.
7 I would flee far away
    and stay in the desert;
8 I would hurry to my place of shelter,
    far from the tempest and storm.”
16As for me, I call to God,
    and the Lord saves me.
22 Cast your cares on the Lord
    and he will sustain you;
he will never let
    the righteous be shaken.

Indeed, life is hard, life is beautiful, life is difficult, life is wonderful.

So true, there is nothing certain, but the uncertain.

Dear Friend, The Lord Jesus worked a miracle in my life through severe affliction over a span of almost five years.

Are you in serious trouble? Cast your cares upon the Lord, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 Amen.

May you be blessed!

Maraming salamat.
