260. The Lord rescues and saves: He performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth.

‘You will be rescued.’

1 Samuel 11
9 They told the messengers who had come, “Say to the men of Jabesh Gilead, ‘By the time the sun is hot tomorrow, you will be rescued.’” When the messengers went and reported this to the men of Jabesh, they were elated.

Daniel 6
27 “He rescues and he saves;
    he performs signs and wonders
    in the heavens and on the earth.
He has rescued Daniel
    from the power of the lions.”

But Nahash the Ammonite replied, “I will make a treaty with you only on the condition that I gouge out the right eye of every one of you and so bring disgrace on all Israel.”
When Saul heard their words, the Spirit of God came powerfully upon him, and he burned with anger.
When Saul mustered them at Bezek, the men of Israel numbered three hundred thousand and those of Judah thirty thousand.
The next day Saul separated his men into three divisions; during the last watch of the night they broke into the camp of the Ammonites and slaughtered them until the heat of the day. Those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
The people then said to Samuel, “Who was it that asked, ‘Shall Saul reign you over us?’ Turn these men over to us so that we may put them to death.”
But Saul said, “No one will be put to death today, for this day the Lord has rescued Israel.” 1 Samuel 11:2, 6, 8, 11-13

The Lord rescued Israel.

Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.”
When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.
So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!”
When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?”
Daniel answered, “May the king live forever!
My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.”
Then King Darius wrote to all the nations and peoples of every language in all the earth:
“May you prosper greatly!
“I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel.
“For he is the living God
    and he endures forever;
his kingdom will not be destroyed,
    his dominion will never end. Daniel 6:13-14, 16, 20-22, 25-26

The Lord rescued Daniel.

Besides two occasions that I really feared for my life, full blown depression around 2004, and Steven's Johnson Syndrome in 2008, there was a particular situation in 2004 where I faced life-threatening danger, alone in a foreign land away from my family.

Suffering depression at that time, I embarked on a visit visa to Abu Dhabi around July 2004, through the help of a South African friend I got to know in Qatar later part of 2003.

The Lord rescued me.

(Part of the lyrics of the song "Came To My Rescue" by Shout Praises Kids)

Lord, "When I called, you answered me;
    you greatly emboldened me.
I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart;
    before the “gods” I will sing your praise.
Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly;
    though lofty, he sees them from afar.
I will bow down toward your holy temple
    and will praise your name
    for your unfailing love and your faithfulness,
for you have so exalted your solemn decree
    that it surpasses your fame" (Psalm 138. Of David verses 3, 1, 6, 2). Lord Almighty, You be glorified, in Jesus' name. Amen.

May you be blessed with God's Word.

Maraming salamat.
