235. As the Lord had directed: The Lord directs our steps, though we stumble, we never fall for He holds us by His hand.

Happy New Year!!!

Let the Lord direct our steps.

Joshua 11
23 So Joshua took the entire land, just as the Lord had directed Moses, and he gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war.

Psalm 37 NLT
23 The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
    He delights in every detail of their lives.
24 Though they stumble, they will never fall,
    for the Lord holds them by the hand.

There was a moment that Joshua did not inquire of the Lord, the Lord did not direct the steps of Joshua.

The Gibeonite Deception

“This bread of ours was warm when we packed it at home on the day we left to come to you. But now see how dry and moldy it is.
And these wineskins that we filled were new, but see how cracked they are. And our clothes and sandals are worn out by the very long journey.”

The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord.

Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath.
Three days after they made the treaty with the Gibeonites, the Israelites heard that they were neighbors, living near them.
But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the assembly had sworn an oath to them by the Lord, the God of Israel.
The whole assembly grumbled against the leaders, but all the leaders answered, “We have given them our oath by the Lord, the God of Israel, and we cannot touch them now.”
Then Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said, “Why did you deceive us by saying, ‘We live a long way from you,’ while actually you live near us?
You are now under a curse: You will never be released from service as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God.” Joshua 9:12-16, 18-19, 22-23

People's lives are not their own, it is not for them to direct their steps.

Jeremiah’s Prayer

Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own;
    it is not for them to direct their steps.

The shepherds are senseless
    and do not inquire of the Lord;
so they do not prosper
    and all their flock is scattered.

This is what the Lord says:
“Do not learn the ways of the nations
    or be terrified by signs in the heavens,
    though the nations are terrified by them.”
Who should not fear you,
    King of the nations?
    This is your due.
Among all the wise leaders of the nations
    and in all their kingdoms,
    there is no one like you.
No one is like you, Lord;
    you are great,
    and your name is mighty in power.
But the Lord is the true God;
    he is the living God, the eternal King.
When he is angry, the earth trembles;
    the nations cannot endure his wrath. Jeremiah 10:23, 21, 2, 7, 6, 10

The Lord is the true God, He is the living God, the eternal King. When He is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure His wrath.

Lord, have mercy on us. Lord, heal our land. Amen.

""Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him" (Colossians 3:13-17). Lord, Thy will be done, this I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
