202. With Grateful Heart: Remember all the commands of the Lord.
29 September 2021
Numbers 15
37 The Lord said to Moses,
39 “‘You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the Lord, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by chasing after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes.’”
Psalm 119
60 I will hasten and not delay
to obey your commands.
Tassels on Garments
38 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘Throughout the generations to come you are to make tassels on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel.
40 Then you will remember to obey all my commands and will be consecrated to your God.
41 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord your God.’”
The Lord brought the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt.
The Lord looked on the Israelites with favor.
“‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you.’” Leviticus 26:9
The Lord chose the Israelites out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His treasured possession (Deuteronomy 7:6).
The Israelites are the apple of God's eye (Deuteronomy 32:9-10).
The Lord parted the Red Sea, for the Israelites to escape from the Pharaoh and his horsemen, and performed other miracles before the very eyes of the Israelites.
Yet the whole community of the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron. (Exodus 16:2)
In this particular case, Korah, Dathan and Abiram rose up against Moses and Aaron, and effectively against the Lord.
Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and certain Reubenites—Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth—became insolent
and rose up against Moses.
Moses also said to Korah, “Now listen, you Levites!
It is against the Lord that you and all your followers have banded together. Who is Aaron that you should grumble against him?” Numbers 16:1, 8,11
The Israelites lost sight of the Lord's endearment and they became stiff-necked from the start (Exodus 32:9).
Gratitude brings a man close to the Lord's heart, as in the case of David, the man after His own heart (1 Samuel 13:14).
David’s Prayer
Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:
“Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?
How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.
And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt?
You have established your people Israel as your very own forever, and you, Lord, have become their God.” 2 Samuel 7:18, 22-24
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
The Greatest Commandment
Matthew 22
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
"Lord, "I will hasten and not delay
to obey your commands.
Your hands made me and formed me;
give me understanding to learn your commands.
I run in the path of your commands,
for you have broadened my understanding.
Direct me in the path of your commands,
for there I find delight.
Teach me knowledge and good judgment,
for I trust your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
I have sought your face with all my heart;
be gracious to me according to your promise." (Psalm 119:60, 73, 32, 35, 66, 11, 58). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
31 January 2018"
May you be blessed with God's Word.
Maraming salamat.
