194. Wala ka sa Lolo ko. For him, a man who dedicates his house to the Lord, He will be pleased to bless.

‘A man dedicates his house to be holy to the Lord.’

Leviticus 27 NKJV
14 ‘And when a man dedicates his house to be holy to the Lord, then the priest shall set a value for it, whether it is good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand.’

1 Chronicles 17

David, King of Israel, desired to build a house for the Lord.

After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.”
Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you.”
But that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying:
“Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in.” 1 Chronicles 17:1-3

Later, it would be Solomon who would build a house for the Name of the Lord.

But this word of the Lord came to me: ‘You have shed much blood and have fought many wars. You are not to build a house for my Name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.
But you will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon, and I will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign.
He is the one who will build a house for my Name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’ 1 Chronicles 22:8-10

David’s Prayer

1 Chronicles 17
16 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:
“Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?
17 And as if this were not enough in your sight, my God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You, Lord God, have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men.
23 And now, Lord, let the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house be established forever. Do as you promised,
24 so that it will be established and that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The Lord Almighty, the God over Israel, is Israel’s God!’ And the house of your servant David will be established before you.
27 Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Lord, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever.”

David's response to the Lord was of humility and gratitude.

The Lord Jesus was born in the lineage of the house of David.

The first time I was asked to pray for a family who has moved to another house, I looked for a related passage in the Bible.

We call it house warming, house blessing or house dedication.

It was the first time I had my thoughts on the above passages in 1 Chronicles 17.

I don't have a house, I mean I don't have a house or property in my name.

My middle daughter and her husband bought a condo unit a few years back and I was asked to pray when they moved in. I prayed the words of David in 1 Chronicles 17.

On Father's Day last year, I wrote an open letter to my three children, which in part reads:

The Lord blessed our family, our house, in a way I could not imagine. My prayer for you, for our family, is as that of King David's in 1 Chronicles 17:27, “Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Lord, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever.””

I dedicated myself to the Lord, I became a Christian, along with my wife, in 2004 at age 44. Few years later, I dedicated my family to the Lord, my children became Christians. I dedicated my house, my family to the Lord.

The Lord has blessed my house all these years, He is faithful.

"Wala ka sa Lolo ko. For him, a man who dedicates his house to the Lord, He will be pleased to bless.", this my children's children will say one day.

“Unless the Lord builds the house,
    the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
In vain you rise early
    and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.

Children are a heritage from the Lord,

    offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court (Psalm 127)”. With praises and thanksgiving, this I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

May you be blessed with God's Word.

Maraming salamat.
