“‘Follow my decrees.’”

Leviticus 25
18 “‘Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws, and you will live safely in the land.

Reward for Obedience

“‘Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.
Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord.
If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands,
I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.
Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.
I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you.
I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.’” Leviticus 26:1-5, 9, 12

The Lord looked on the Israelites with favor.

The Israelites are the apple of God's eye (Deuteronomy 32:9-10).

Yet they chose to disobey God.

Punishment for Disobedience

“‘But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands,
and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant,
then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.
I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no one is pursuing you.’” Leviticus 26:14-17

The Lord sent the Israelites far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries.

Yet the Lord gathered them back as it is the modern day nation of Israel.

“Therefore say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again.’
Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 11:17, 20, 19

The God of the Israelites is full of compassion, full of mercy.

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, speaks of the same God of the Israelites who gives wisdom from heaven for us to be obedient, to be submissive to His decrees.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. James 1:5; 3:17

The words of Apostle Paul.

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,
he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:3-6

""Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The LORD will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned (Psalm 34:11, 9, 6, 18, 22). The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer (Psalm 6:9). I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips (Psalm 34:1). Lord, glory and honor are Yours, in Jesus' name. Amen.
