141. Wala ka sa Lolo ko. For him, the Lord, the God of Abram is our God.

12 April 2021
The Lord, the God of Abram.

Genesis 12
6 Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.
7 The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

The Lord, the God of Abram is our God.

Genesis 17
5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.

Abram or Abraham, and his wife Sarai or Sarah, messed up God's plan of giving him the offspring to whom He will give the land of the Canaanites. Sarai was barren and they turned to Hagar, who bore a son for Abram (Genesis 16:1-3).

Abram or Abraham was a failure.

By God's grace, Abraham and Sarah by faith even though she was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered Him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore. Hebrews 11:11-12

I was a failure. I messed up.

The other day I came about this news article:

"7. Ateneo de Manila University
Tuition: PHP 180,000 – PHP 200,000 per year"

I tried to google the equivalent tuition fee back in 2002 but did not find any information.

During a period of 5 years that I had no stable employment and suffered depression, my eldest daughter attended Ateneo 2002 to 2006, and my second daughter 2003 to 2007, by God's grace on free tuition.

My youngest, a son, graduated from UP Diliman in 2011 and was planning to take review classes for the board exam. He then got a job offer from the mining company to go through in-house review program and take the board exam while on company payroll. After passing the board exam, he was assigned at the mine site.

In 2008 I contracted Stevens-Johnson Syndrome due to severe allergy to antibiotics and developed severe case of anxiety. By 2009, I was able to get government employment which more than the pay provided therapy for my anxiety.

We could have pooled together money for my son's review expenses, no need, for the Lord provided the way.

By God's grace, college related finances for my children were provided His way. My son was on scholarship on his first year and his last semesters were on free tuition entitlement care of my employment.

Abraham was past age and good as dead, and Sarah was barren, the Lord worked a miracle to enable her to bore the promised offspring.

Given the circumstances my children went through in college, their feet are grounded, so to speak. We give back the glory to the God of Abram.

The Lord, the God of Abram is our God. The Lord, the God of Abraham is my God.

Abraham Justified by Faith

Romans 4
1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter?
2 If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God.
3 What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
4 Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation.
5 However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.

Lord, "..... without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God." (Hebrews 11:6, 8, 10). Lord, God of Abraham, I put my faith in You, in good times and bad times You are God; You are sovereign. You be glorified, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Wala ka sa Lolo ko; for him, the Lord, the God of Abram is our God, this my children's children will say one day. Amen.

May you be blessed with God's Word.

Maraming salamat.
