Genesis 5
1 This is the written account of Adam’s family line.
3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.
Proverbs 3
3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.
"Abel honored God; Seth was in place of Abel and he restored the "godly line of mankind", that is in the likeness of God. The righteous "seed" of Abel was replaced by the "seed" of Seth, who through his lineage the Lord Jesus was born."
Love and faithfulness written in the heart of men: "This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people." Jeremiah 31:33
Reflecting on the above main verses, I remember 2 particular instances that my name was a bad credit.
First was in 2002, when my eldest daughter started college in Manila while we were residing in Lipa.
For communication purposes, I got 2 postpaid cell phones, units were free. It was that period that I later had serious financial difficulties, unable to pay the monthly charges. I in turn bought prepaid sim and continued to use the cell phones.
It must be around 2006 that I had the opportunity to make amends; I had by then recovered financially. My wife's niece that time was working with the telephone company from which I availed of the free cell phones in 2002. I requested her to ask their office how I can settle my accountability and clear my account. I then settled the full amount including penalties.
Second occasion, I exited Qatar early 2004; I had a credit card with some outstanding purchases. In my thought I would settle payment with the Philippine branch of the bank that issued the credit card.
On arriving home, I tried to arrange for the payment with the local branch, which advised me such arrangement is not possible. With money getting more scarce later, I failed to settle payment for my credit card.
It was later part of 2005 that I got an email from the bank in Qatar. Around that time, we were already able to finalize the sale of the house and the buyer has made advance payment. Hence, I was able to pay via telegraphic transfer my obligation with the bank in Qatar.
Actually, I was advised by the bank in Qatar that I will be banned from entering GCC countries if I would not be able to settle my accountability. After I made the full payment including for penalties, I was given certification clearing me of any accountability.
In December 2005, I left for Dubai for employment formalities in Sharjah and then proceeded to the worksite in Kuwait.
Romans 13
8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
There are countless occasions that I have caused ill-repute to my name. For these sins, I ask the Lord for forgiveness for those times that my name was not pleasing in the sight of God.
Living for God
1 Peter 4
8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
"I shall... "’Love the Lord my God with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my strength and with all my mind’" (Luke 10:27). Lord, I "... shall have no other gods before You (Exodus 20:3). Lord, "I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on Your laws." (Psalm 119:30). Psalms "For great is Your love, higher than the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies." (Psalm 108:4). "Guard my life, for I am faithful to you; save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God." (Psalm 86:2). "I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations." (Psalm 89:1). Lord, I praise You, this I pray in Jesus' name. Amen."
Someday my children's children will say, wala ka sa Lolo ko; for him, a good name is to be a man in the image of God.
Proverbs 22:1
A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
May you be blessed with God's Word.
Maraming salamat.
