Revelation 7
9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.
10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”
1. deliverance from danger or difficulty
2. deliverance from the power and effects of sin.
I have been saved or delivered from serious danger or severe difficulty.
Financially, I was dislocated during the period 2000-2005 being out of work in gaps over that long period. It was the time that my children were to start college. It was utterly demoralizing for me as bread winner.
Years earlier, my wife Marlou resigned from her job in 1989 after our son Paolo was born, the youngest after 2 daughters. It was desirable that Marlou was at home while our children were growing up.
Everything was well. Our children attended private school up to secondary level.
I was separated twice from employment, in 1997 and then in early 2000; I was given financial package.
I then had jobs on several occasions, one on project basis, then the others did not work well. I was aiming for jobs along the line of my previous work. I went for jobs abroad twice, in 2003 and 2004, but homesickness and demoralization affected me.
Latter part of 2004, I took the job as Safety and Security Officer at Dela Salle Lipa and later was given teaching load at its College of Engineering.
My story is not complete without asterisks. The cars had to be sold, the house mortgage defaulted, I suffered severe abdominal spasms, symptom of psychosomatic depression, hence no findings when I had endoscopy. I took much of proton inhibitor Nexium which were compliments of a friend.
The upside, my 2 daughters attended same university on free tuition, the house was bought by a friend before being foreclosed by the bank, and we were able to pay all debts.
Stranger than fiction?
My story, I was delivered from danger and difficulty.
I declared with my mouth, "Jesus is Lord", and believed in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I was saved.
In my severe affliction, among many people who helped, family and friends, there were Kuya Nanie and Ate Becks Perez, my benefactors in Christ who gave so much encouragement, and Pastor Dan Guzman who took time for me on one-on-one Bible study.
Recently, one friend asked me if being separated from the company in 1997 was blessing in disguise. It was God's mercies in disguise.
Blessings
Song by Laura Story
We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things
'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise
Revelation 7
10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”
Sharing my prayer, part of my reflection 2 November 2017.
"Lord, "My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge" (Psalm 62:7). "... I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. ... as for me, afflicted and in pain - may your salvation, God, protect me. I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them." (Psalm 69:13, 16, 29, 30, 34). "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb. Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!" (Revelation 7:10, 12). This I pray in Jesus' name. Amen."
1 Thessalonians 5
9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Someday, my children's children will utter, "Wala ka sa Lolo ko. For him, salvation belongs to our God. Amen!"
May you be blessed with God's Word.
Maraming salamat.
