James 2
10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Mercy. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. Luke 11:4
That's the condition. That should be very fair enough.
Yet many of us are unforgiving. Even more the Lord Jesus said, forgive your brother “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:22
Here are some help from Bruce Wilkinson, Christian teacher and author.
70X7 Session 2:
Five Requirements for Lasting Forgiveness
Forgiveness is one of those characteristics that God desires to be a permanent fixture in our lives. The session reflects on Christ’s five universal requirements to break out of our heart-prisons, for real and forever.
Requirement 1:
OPEN your heart to prepare to forgive.
“So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” Matthew 18:35
1.1 Anyone can open their heart anytime they choose.
1.2 You cannot forgive anyone unless you first open your heart.
Requirement 2:
EXTEND compassion to the person you need to forgive.
“Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
‘Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’” Matthew 18:27, 33
2.1 Compassion can be raised by the other PERSON.
“Was moved with compassion” (passive verb—it happens to you)
2.2 Compassion can be raised by your own CHOICE.
“Should have had compassion” (active verb—you make it happen)
Requirement 3:
RELEASE the person from your inner Heart Prison.
“Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.” Matthew 18:27
3.1 The person must be separated from the “trespass” they committed.
3.2 The person is locked in your Heart Prison until you release them.
Requirement 4:
FORGIVE each trespass, offense, mistake, sin, and wound.
Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all the debt because you begged me.
”So my Heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” Matthew 18:27,32,35
Requirement 5:
BLESS and do good to the person.
“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate
you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your
Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Matthew 5:44-45

It could help us soften our hearts by calling to mind the mercies of God, His forgiveness in Jesus Christ.
Let me share my reading and reflection 20 October 2017.
"God is merciful indeed.
Hebrews 8
The High Priest of a New Covenant
6 But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.
10 This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
Hebrews 9
The Blood of Christ
15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
"Merciful God, I thank You, "For You so loved me that You gave Your one and only Son, that I who believe in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). When I was dead in my sins and in the uncircumcision of my flesh, God made me alive with Christ. He forgave me all my sins, having canceled the charge of my legal indebtedness, which stood against me and condemned me; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross (Colossians 2:13-14). Lord, great is Your mercy. Your compassions fail not, they are new every morning, great is Thy faithfulness (Lamentations 3:23). Praise, honor and glory are Yours, this I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.""
Lamentations 3 NLT
22 The faithful love of the LORD never ends!
His mercies never cease.
23 Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
My children's children will someday say, wala ka sa Lolo ko; he is grateful for the Lord's mercies never cease.
May you be blessed with God's Word. Amen.
Maraming salamat.
