Ephesians 2
Made Alive in Christ
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Here is what I wrote 25 September 2017, on the ocassion of my 57th birthday.
“No man can present himself perfect before God. As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10). Mapwera yung kakilala ng tatay ko, si Mang Pecto....hehehe.
Ephesians 1
18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,
19a and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
Sinners that all we are, God worked out our redemption.
Ephesians 2
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
“Lord, at a mature age I experienced personal crisis that I myself am wondering how I survived, but there is no explanation other than that I was saved by Your grace, by Your favor which I do not deserve. That's the beauty of Your grace, it all depends on the Giver, it’s all because of Your great love, even when I was dead in my transgressions (Ephesians 2:5). With all gratitude, especially today on the occasion of my birthday, Lord, I give You all praise, honor and glory forever and ever, in Jesus’ name. Amen.””
Actually there is mention of a righteous man in the Bible.
Genesis 6
Noah and the Flood
9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.
Yet, Noah sinned.
Genesis 9
20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard.
21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.
Some have tried to exonerate Noah by arguing that he didn’t know about fermentation, and got drunk accidentally. Other explanations have been suggested. But since drunkenness and nakedness are always presented in the Bible in a shameful light, we must conclude that Noah sinned.

“Righteous” here probably means that he was upright in his treatment of others; no cheating, deception or misuse of his fellow man. His word was his bond, as we say, and no man need fear his malice.
Noah was “blameless in his generation.” The word “blameless” here is sometimes translated in our older versions as “perfect,” but I suggest that it does not mean “perfect” in the sense of “absolutely flawless.” The wisest man in the ancient world said, “There is no one who does not sin” (1 Kings 8:46), and God’s prophets and apostles one and all completely agree with Solomon.
Faith in Action is Righteousness.

22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.
Romans 3
No One Is Righteous
10 As it is written:
“There is no one righteous, not even one;
11 there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”
20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
