On earth peace, good will toward men. (Luke 2:14)
We had the 90 days challenge which commenced June 2017.
Here is my reflection 18 September 2017.
“90 Days Challenge. To invite people to church in pursuit of the Lord's Great Commission.
2 Corinthians 6
4 Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses;
5 in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger.
The life of Apostle Paul, who changed from being the chief of sinners to be the least of the apostles by his own words, was full of adversity, full of challenges. Did he sound complaining here?
Let's see his letter to the Philippians.
Philippians 4
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4
9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
He can only preach what is true in his personal life.
Philippians 4
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Philippians 4
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Life as a Christian is not difficult...it is extremely difficult.
Zechariah 4
6 So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”
“Lord, it is not surprising that people have a tendency to watch Christians. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” Lord, help me persevere in prayer that You will find me faithful. I pray for the persecuted Christians for they serve as inspiration worth emulating. Blessed be Your name, You, Lord, be glorified, in Jesus' name. Amen.””
As we enter the New Year, allow me to dwell on peace, as in one of the verses above.
Philippians 4
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
How can peace and adversity go together?
Somebody close to us recently lost a daughter due to sudden illness. We got a call few hours after the daughter was rushed to the hospital. We prayed over the phone. We prayed for healing, the daughter was on oxygen support and was unconscious; we prayed for comfort and strength for the family. Later we got word the daughter was breathing on her own but still unconscious. After a few days, we got message the daughter passed away; we talked again with the mother, prayed and offered words of comfort and encouragement. Nowadays, we continue to communicate with the mother, praying for peace and calm in the moment of grief of the family.
Isaiah 9
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, in the midst of the unsettling situation in our country and in the whole world, as we face the New Year, we ask that You reign in our hearts. Your Word says, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you” (Phillipians 4:9). Lord, we put our trust in You; may You find us faithful. Amen.
Someday, my children's children will say, wala ka sa Lolo ko; for him, he can only share his faith to other people through what is true in his life.
God's peace be with you. Amen.
Maraming salamat.
