Matthew 5
The Beatitudes
1 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him,
2 and he began to teach them.
He said:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
    for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
    for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
    for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Psalm 128
A song of ascents.
1 Blessed are all who fear the Lord,
    who walk in obedience to him.
2 You will eat the fruit of your labor;
    blessings and prosperity will be yours.
3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
    within your house;
your children will be like olive shoots
    around your table.
4 Yes, this will be the blessing
    for the man who fears the Lord.

My children's children will one day say, wala ka sa Lolo ko, he is blessed, for blessed is the man who fears the Lord. Amen.

Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
Who delights greatly in His commandments. (Psalm 112:1 NKJV)

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments.
His praise endures forever. (Psalm 111:10)

Job 28
20 Where then does wisdom come from?
    Where does understanding dwell?
23 God understands the way to it
    and he alone knows where it dwells.
28 And he said to the human race,
    “The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom,
    and to shun evil is understanding.”

Job was a good man, yet went through severe affliction.

In the middle of great suffering, Job held on to faith in his God.
Job 19
20 I am nothing but skin and bones;
    I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth.
23 “Oh, that my words were recorded,
    that they were written on a scroll,
24 that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead,
    or engraved in rock forever!
25 I know that my redeemer lives,
    and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
26 And after my skin has been destroyed,
    yet in my flesh I will see God;
27 I myself will see him
    with my own eyes—I, and not another.
    How my heart yearns within me!

The end.
Job 42
16 After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.
17 And so Job died, an old man and full of years.

Make no mistake, I am no Job.

The parable of the lost sheep. Then the parable of the lost son, more known as the story of the prodigal son. (Luke 15:11-32)

It is said the parable of the prodigal son is also a story of a prodigal father. The father was lavish with his love for his lost son. He was very forgiving of his son's wastefulness. The prodigal son was to be content to be treated as a servant, yet the father restored him to his stature.

prod·i·gal

/ˈprädəɡəl/

adjective

having or giving something on a lavish scale.

generous, lavish

Grace, that's undeserved favor, being given or bestowed something lavish, something not deserved.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16).

Eternal life is by God's grace, not of good works.

The Lord bestowed grace on me.

My children's children will one day say, wala la sa Lolo ko, he is blessed, for blessed is the man who fears the Lord. Amen.
