Tribute to Daddy, my father-in-law: “God is love”(1 John 4:16)

14 August 2020

The original of this, I wrote in 23 October 2017: “God is love; that is what is written in the epitaph of my father-in-law. His love for me helped me through my midlife crisis. I showed him my gratitude, I would hug him which I am not used to, and thanking him when we prayed together when he was confined at the hospital about 2 months before he passed away. Over the weekend, we watched the movie "Seven Sundays", a story of Filipino family through relational conflicts and the overarching love of family."

Daddy was in the hospital, Paolo went up to the room ahead of Marlou and me. When I came up, Paolo was seated by Daddy's bedside and was chatting saying, "Eh yan kilala mo yan?" pointing to me. Daddy replied, which I overheard,  "Yan, si congressman yan" as his usual pabiro, and I smiled at Daddy as I asked Paolo to stand up for me to seat by Daddy's bedside. I held Daddy's hand and said, Daddy magpray ako and he nodded. I started kind of, "Lord, salamat for the words that Daddy did not utter at the time that I was out of work and was sick, when our children were starting college. I did not hear Daddy ask me, Picoy saan ka kukuha ng ipagpaaral mo sa mga anak mo?" What a relief and very kind understanding. Inside me I know Daddy has been praying for me. I am forever grateful for Daddy for carrying me in prayer.

Mommy was seated near Marlou and teary-eyed overhearing what I was saying, Marlou later told me.

Maraming salamat Daddy. Advance Happy Birthday Daddy (June 15).

Advance Happy Father's Day.
