Bread in a bakery in the Holy Land, Israel.

Yes bread in Modern day Israel, by a cousin, a Filipina, married to an Israeli, in bakery business.

She lived with us back in the late 1980's when my children were growing up.
We just got reconnected 20 September 2020.

She is now an Israeli resident.

I pay tribute to this cousin, kind-hearted, she supports her widowed mother back home in Batangas City.

She posted this comment in one of the blogs, in Hebrew language.
To you dear cousin, the Lord continue to bless the work of your hands. (Psalm 90:17) Amen.

John 6
Jesus the Bread of Life
47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.
48 I am the bread of life.

We lived in Lipa before we moved to Quezon City in 2006. We lived near Fernando Air Base.

At Fernando Air Base, there is the "Daily Bread" bakery where we would buy pandesal and loaf bread. At times, all bread are sold and none are left when I go there; they bake only for a day's demand.

The Lord's prayer, in part, teaches us that we ask Our Heavenly Father to "give us this day our daily bread", not say in bulk for one week or one month.

Old Testament times, bread rained down from heaven and people were to  gather enough for the day, not more.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.” (Exodus 16:4)

Except on Sabbath.

“Bear in mind that the Lord has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where they are on the seventh day; no one is to go out.” (Exodus 16:29)

Bread that rained down from heaven is "manna". It must not be kept for the following day.

Exodus 16
19 Then Moses said to them, “No one is to keep any of it until morning.”
20 However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell. So Moses was angry with them.

However, man does not live on bread alone.

Deuteronomy 8
2 Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Matthew 4
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Jesus is the bread of life.

John 1
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus is the Word.

The Word of God in the Old Testament.

Joshua 1
7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.
8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Meditate on the Word of God day and night and you will be prosperous.

The prosperity gospel, in the words of the Apostle Paul.

Philippians 4
19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
20 To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Some day, my children's children will say, wala ka sa Lolo ko, he has ration of bread for life.

Jesus is the bread of life. Jesus is the Word. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God.

I feed on the Word. I feed on the bread of life. I feed on it, I get each day my daily bread, the bread of life, I feed on the bread for life, that is,  the bread for eternal life.

John 6
68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

I remain in Jesus, the bread of life, apart from Him I can do nothing. I feed on Him for life, life without Jesus is nothing.

John 15
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. Amen.

John 6
44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.
45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me.
46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father.
47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.
48 I am the bread of life.

John 6
66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.
68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

Now, I wish to add something about bread back in the Biblical times, that is manna.

From Wikipedia.
Manna is described as having the appearance of bdellium.

Bdellium /ˈdɛliəm/, also bdellion, is a semi-transparent oleo-gum resin extracted from Commiphora wightii of India (also called false myrrh) and from Commiphora africana trees growing in Ethiopia, Eritrea and sub-saharan Africa. According to Pliny the best quality came from Bactria (today Afghanistan). Other named sources for the resin are India, Arabia, Media, and Babylon.

Bdellium is used in perfumery, as incense, and in traditional medicine. It is an adulterant of the more costly myrrh.

In closing, the word of God says, man does not live on bread alone.

May be blessed with the message.

Maraming salamat.

  3. The blogger's cousin has a pure heart. I can attest to that. Decades past without communication and suddenly we got reconnected. Am happy she's reaping blessings after blessings from the unconditional love she's been lavishing to her family of origin. Claiming we'll see each other in the future where Jesus lived. 🧡
